New members to the choir are always welcome. If you want to hear us in action, come along to one of our concerts, and/or join in one of our Open Workshops to get a flavour of how we and our Musical Director operate.
We aim to be a friendly and welcoming choir, with a good social programme. All voices are welcome, and we are particularly delighted if partners join together – we already have a number of couples who enjoy singing together in the choir.
Our subscriptions are currently £120 per year for singing members. For new members there is a special ‘Have a Go’ offer – if you want to try out singing with us your first term will be free and the subs for the remainder of the year will be reduced accordingly. Subscriptions are currently free for under 25s in full-time education or unemployed.
For further information contact our Membership Secretary Mary Suckling on 01483 283957 or use the Contact Us form.
Join our Friends
Alternatively, you could become a Friend. The Friends Association was formed to give additional support to the choir, helping with the costs of public concerts as well as providing support in many other ways.
Friends receive the choir Newsletter and news of social events (which Friends are welcome to attend). If you would like to join as a Friend, please contact our Friends Secretary Lyn Groves on 01306 898339 or use the Contact Us form. We ask our Friends for a minimum annual contribution of £20.
There are other ways in which you can support the choir. It is our policy to engage with the local community by encouraging participation in our concerts by local schools and musicians and also to support local churches through devotional concerts (which also helps them to raise funds). So by helping us with the cost of concerts through one of the ways suggested below you would also be helping the local community. And, of course, as our participation with local schools helps increase our audience members (through bringing in mums & dads), so advertising in our programmes reaches an increasingly wider audience thus making advertising increasingly cost-effective.
These are some suggested ways for you to give your support:
1) Advertise in our concert programme. You might expect to have access to 200+ people attending a concert at St Martins or St Pauls, or 600-700 at Dorking Halls. Concerts involving schools are always well attended because of parent attendance. In addition, your company will be advertised on our website via the highly-visible “Support our advertisers” box.
2) Make a donation to the choir – this would of course be acknowledged in our concert programmes and we may also be able to offer free tickets. We have a Virgin MoneyGiving Donation page – please click here.
3) sponsor a young singer, a specific concert, or a young musician – any of these would also be acknowledged in our programmes and advertising.
If you would like to look into the quality of our performances first, then do come along to one of our concerts and see (and listen!) for yourself.
Many local businesses have already advertised in our concert programmes. You can advertise in up to four programmes in a season (for a reduced rate). Details of advertising rates and an application form to complete and return if you are interested in advertising with us can be accessed here: click either Word or PDF format.
